why we Support Convivio
A Message from Donors Leslie and Roger Carlisle
Roger and I first attended Convivio in 2016 and were immediately struck by the incredible artistry and intellect the conference was able to attract. We attended readings and lectures by amazing authors, prominent scholars, and decorated historians. Afterward, we sat down next to those same individuals, shared delicious meals, and talked about fascinating topics. Later, we came to understand that the true and lasting power of Convivio is the way it fosters camaraderie among its faculty, participants, and students.
Convivio, however, remains out of financial reach for most young writing students, which is why Roger and I helped to build the Convivio “Arts Abroad” Foundation, and why we make annual donations. We believe that offering students the opportunity to attend Convivio and take part in all of its wonders not only aids them in their ambitions as writers but also makes the conference itself more dynamic, diverse, and lively for everyone involved.
We certainly enjoy our time at Convivio and return every summer to experience the new faculty and all that Postignano has to offer. We adore reuniting, too, with all the returning participants, as well as with the borgo’s staff and management—folks who have become family over the years. Most importantly, though, we look forward to meeting and interacting with each year’s new class of students at the beginning of their writing lives. It’s what makes this conference so special to us, knowing that we can help nurture the next generation of artists, all within the gorgeous medieval walls of Postignano.
We encourage you to do likewise, to give at whatever level you are comfortable with, and to become part of the Convivio family.
