PROGRAM

W R I T I N G

Convivio invites accomplished writers from across the United States and Italy to offer readings, writing workshops, and one-on-one conferences with attendees. You will have your writing taken seriously, engage in lectures related to craft, and enjoy readings by luminaries in fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. Whether you are a novice, a seasoned pro, or anyone in between, our widely published and award-winning authors will help you develop your voice and expand your vision on the page.

A R T

Convivio offerings in art range from photography to painting, from bookmaking to linocuts. In 2024, St. Mary's faculty member Aaron Bremyer will lead attendees through a wide range of activities designed to encourage lateral thinking and unusual juxtapositions in multimedia collage.
Practical workshops with Aaron are also supplemented by lectures and art tours from veteran art historian Nathan Rees. What better place than the hills of Italy to explore your artistic expression?

M U S I C

Music abounds at Convivio. Our music offerings change year to year but always deliver energy, celebration, and a spirit of collaboration. Often a chorus performs traditional Umbria folks songs, which reverberate off the medieval walls. We have hosted guitar virtuosos and accomplished pianists, but we have also helped novice singers perform their first covers of Johnny Cash songs. In addition, the borgo of Postignano itself maintains a celebrated concert series, to which all participants are invited. In short, music is woven into the daily fabric of the conference.

Leisure? Let us count the ways. Swimming in the private pool that looks out over the mountains. Hikes to nearby hilltop borgos. E-biking and mountain biking through picturesque landscapes. How about a massage in the wellness center? A game of bocce on a genuine Italian court? Or maybe your idea of leisure is simply an Aperol Spritz on a terrace overlooking one of countless stunning views. Convivio is Italian for "feast," of course, but it might as well mean "leisure."

Friendships built inside the borgo's walls remain strong year after year. Indeed, many participants return in large part to reconnect with their Convivio pals. Ten days of sharing food and wine, conversation, writing and art (the list goes on and on) creates bonds of incredible strength and longevity. Perhaps the most enduring benefit of Convivio is the camaraderie that it inspires.
